You are not alone.
Nearly 3% of U.S. adults have been diagnosed with a Bipolar disorder.
What is Bipolar Disorder?
There are 2 types of Bipolar Disorder, Bipolar I and Bipolar II:
Bipolar I disorder is a mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings that include manic episodes, typically lasting at least seven days, and depressive episodes, lasting at least two weeks. During manic episodes, individuals may experience heightened energy, euphoria, impulsivity, and decreased need for sleep, often accompanied by risky behaviors or grandiose ideas. Depressive episodes involve feelings of sadness, hopelessness, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating, sometimes leading to suicidal thoughts or behaviors. The cycling between these extreme mood states can significantly disrupt daily functioning and relationships.
Bipolar II disorder is a mental health condition characterized by recurrent episodes of depression and hypomania. Hypomania is a less severe form of mania, marked by elevated mood, increased energy, and impulsivity, but without the extreme symptoms of full-blown mania. Individuals with bipolar II disorder may experience intense periods of depression, with feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and low energy, alternating with hypomanic episodes where they may feel more energetic and productive. While hypomania may seem less disruptive, it can still impair functioning and contribute to difficulties in daily life and relationships.
Between Bipolar I and Bipolar II Disorder, nearly 6 million adults are affected. Although Bipolar disorders can be common, you don’t have to continue suffering.
